MELAKA, April 17 (Bernama) -- Melaka will be the host of the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) which will be held on May 29.
Communications and Multimedia Minister (MenKOMM), Tan Sri Annuar Musa said it would be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the occasion would be organised as an annual event.
“The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) will be the organiser of HAWANA with the support of the Malaysian-Indonesian Journalists’ Association (ISWAMI),” he told reporters after a MenKOMM Iftar ceremony with the community of Melaka here tonight.
Also present was Bernama Acting Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Ariffin.
He said the holding of HAWANA was following the organising of National Press Day (HPN) which was implemented in Indonesia in appreciation of the service of media practitioners in carrying out news coverage.
He said Melaka was selected as it is a historical city and it was also where the early history of the nation’s independence began, it is thus the best place for organising HAWANA.
“Through discussions between Malaysian and Indonesian journalist associations, we want to extend the journalist day to be held in Malaysia in appreciation of the profession of journalism.
“It will also be held in a more organised manner each year and the location of the event will be rotated among the states,” he said.
