JOHOR BAHRU, July 25 (Bernama) -- A sewerage worker who was injured after being trapped in a landslide while doing septic tank repair work at a school in Kota Tinggi near here yesterday, was found to be following the standard operating procedures (SOP).

Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd in a statement today said the worker had also adopted health and safety measures that had been set.

The company said it always adheres to the SOP in the maintenance works of the sewage treatment plant to ensure the safety of its workers.

It said the safety and well-being of the employees has always been a priority for the company that has been operating since 1994.

"Investigations found that the worker had followed the set health and safety measures while carrying out maintenance work, but the incident happened unexpectedly," it said.

IWK also expressed appreciation to all parties involved for their quick action in rescuing the victim.

Yesterday, a 44-year-old man was trapped for four hours in a landslide at Sekolah Menengah Sains Kota Tinggi while three of his colleagues managed to escape.

“While working, the ground beside the sewage tank suddenly collapsed, and the victim was trapped in soil up to the waist level. The victim is in stable condition," said Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Hussin Zamora.
