SOLO (Indonesia), July 29 (Bernama) – The 2018 Para Asia Games champion Eddy Bernard is hoping for another successful hunt on Indonesian soil, as he geared up to bag the men’s long jump title at the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG) here.
The 21-year-old Sabahan, emerged victorious in the T37 men’s long jump and 100m sprint when the last time APG was held in Kuala Lumpur five years ago.
Eddy, who leapt past his Asian Para Games record of 6.30m in Jakarta with a 6.36m feat at a Paris tournament in April, is confident of winning the gold at Manahan Stadium here despite a change of classification.
“For now my preparation is proceeding well and I am confident of winning gold in my pet event (long jump), while also trying my luck in the sprint. In the 2017 edition, I competed in the T37, but my classification has changed to T44 since 2018.
“I am not really sure about the challenges posed in this Games, but I am expecting athletes from Thailand and Myanmar to give me a good fight,” he told Bernama when met during training session at the Sriwedari Stadium here, today.
T42-44 is a classifications for athletes with lower limb competing without prosthesis affected by limb deficiency, leg length difference, impaired muscle power or impaired passive range of movement.
