New 15-point Scoring System Mandatory From Feb 1, 2024 - Istaf

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) insists that it is mandatory to implement the 15-point scoring system for all domestic and international competitions from Feb 1, next year.

ISTAF secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Kader said the international governing body would take action against any party that disregards the new guidelines.

"Any party or association refusing to implement the change will be given a stern warning and, if they continue to resist,  ISTAF will take stern action.

"ISTAF has also instructed all ISTAF and Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) umpires to comply with this new ruling,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Halim had previously announced that ISTAF, during its Executive Committee Meeting on Dec 8, decided to implement the 15-point scoring system and limit each team to one service instead of the current three for all domestic and international competitions starting from Feb 1 next year.

He also added that under the 15-point scoring system, if the teams are tied at 14-14, the first team to score the 17th point will be the winner.

The decision to drop the 21-point scoring system, introduced in 2013, is closely linked to the lengthy duration of matches.
