Menzies-MMAG Partnership Set To Enhance Malaysia’s Aviation Sector -- Loke

SEPANG, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The partnership between Menzies Aviation and MMAG Sky Services Sdn Bhd is set to bring international expertise into Malaysia’s aviation sector, with the aim of expanding their business and enhance service quality, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Menzies Aviation has secured the necessary Ground Handling Licence from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM), effective Nov 1, 2024, allowing it to commence operations in Malaysia.

“Menzies is a company with a long history, and we hope they can bring international elements to our aviation sector. We also look forward to their business growth here and the improved services they will bring,” Loke said in his speech at the launch of Menzies Aviation Malaysia here today.

He said Menzies is currently partnering with MMAG Sky Services as their ground handler, focusing primarily on the cargo segment.

Established in 1833, Menzies Aviation has grown into a world-renowned ground handler, operating in over 265 airports across 55 countries and serving more than 500 customers globally. Its services include ground handling, air cargo management, and aircraft fuelling — all driven by a mission to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability in aviation operations.

Loke expressed confidence that the partnership would pave the way for greater advancements in Malaysia’s aviation sector and drive the nation closer to becoming a key player in the regional and global aviation landscape.

Meanwhile, Menzies Aviation executive vice president for Oceania & Southeast Asia, Darren Masters, said the company is excited about the opportunities in Malaysia’s aviation sector, which already operates at a high level.

"From our experience here so far, the aviation industry is already at a high standard and has a strong foundation. We want to build on that and make further improvements," he said.

Masters said Menzies Aviation’s goal is to help Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) become one of the best airports globally.

"That is what we try and do, and we will continue to improve operations in Kuala Lumpur, starting small, we want to walk before we can run, but ultimately, we want to be a major player in Malaysia’s aviation market, and we will do everything we can to make that a reality," he said.

On areas for improvement, Masters noted the need for upgraded airport equipment.

"The standard of equipment currently available at the airport is probably not at the level it needs to be. We will assess how we can assist with that. As we go along, we will be investing in new equipment for KLIA, and hopefully, this will provide more consistency across the network.

"When looking at expansion, Malaysia stood out as one of the Tier 1 countries because of its good infrastructure, language capabilities, skilled workforce, and the positive attitude of its people," he said.

Addressing concerns about Menzies Aviation’s 12-month operating licence, Masters expressed confidence that the company would be able to secure an extension.

"If we perform well, I’m sure it (licence) will be renewed. It’s up to us to convince the authorities that we’re worth having. If we don’t, then we don’t deserve another licence," he said.

In August last year, Menzies Aviation announced the establishment of Menzies Aviation (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture with MMAG Sky Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MMAG Aviation Consortium Sdn Bhd, which in turn is the aviation arm of MMAG Holdings Bhd.
