KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The tabling of the Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 for its first reading today marks the beginning of a historic chapter for the Malaysian Parliament, according to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said this is clear evidence of the MADANI government’s strong commitment to advancing legal and institutional reform for the benefit and well-being of the people and the country.

“The second reading is expected to be presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on March 4, InsyaAllah,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Following the tabling of the bill in the Dewan Rakyat, the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU, JPM) conducted a briefing session for Members of Parliament from both the government and opposition blocs to provide a detailed explanation of the bill.

Also present at the briefing was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Azalina said that besides demonstrating the MADANI government’s determination to fulfil its promises, the bill is also a game changer that will propel Malaysia forward as a highly regarded nation that truly understands and upholds democracy.

"Therefore, I am confident that this bill will be passed with the support of all the 222 Members of Parliament," she said.

The Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 aims to establish the Parliamentary Services, making it a separate entity from the public service.

It also provides for the establishment of the Parliamentary Services Council, which will be responsible for, among other things, appointing and determining the terms and conditions of Parliamentary Services personnel, overseeing all financial matters related to Parliamentary Services, and developing and implementing programmes and training related to Parliamentary Services.

Under the bill, the government is required to allocate sufficient funds for Parliamentary Services each year to enable the Parliamentary Services Council to carry out its functions.
