KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Australia failed to maintain their unbeaten record after losing by 12 runs to Sri Lanka in their final Super Six Group 1 match of the Under-19 Women's T20 Cricket World Cup here today.
The defeat, however, had no consequence as the Australians had already secured their place in the semi-finals on Friday (Jan 24).
According to the tournament website, the Australia-Sri Lanka clash, held at the UKM Cricket Ground in Bangi, saw the team from Down Under concede defeat after scoring 87 runs while Sri Lanka compiled 99 runs in 20.0 overs.
Meanwhile, Nigeria concluded their T20 World Cup campaign with a stunning six-run win over Ireland in their Super Six Group 2 match at the same venue.
Nigeria overcame a slow start to put up a total of 94 runs while Ireland could only score 88 runs in 18.4 overs.
The win saw Nigeria, who are making their debut in the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup in seventh place overall.
