KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- This year’s Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) champions Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) and runners-up Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) stayed on course for a title showdown in the 2025 TNB Cup competition after storming into the semi-finals today.
In the quarter-finals, THT hammered the Armed Forces Hockey Team (AFHT) 8-3 at the Tun Razak Stadium here while TNB were just as ruthless as they blew away the Liaoning Men's Hockey Team 8-2 at Stadium KPM in Lembah Pantai here.
The other two quarter-final matches saw Matador Hockey Club edging TNB Thunderbolt 2-1 at the Tun Razak Stadium and Maybank ousting UiTM HA-KPT 2-0 at Stadium KPM.
In the semi-finals on Thursday (Feb 20), THT will face Matador Hockey Club while TNB will take on Maybank at the National Hockey Stadium 2 in Bukit Jalil.
In today’s THT-AFHT clash, forward Faizal Saari stole the show for THT with a hat-trick (35th, 50th and 54th minutes) as Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook scored a brace in the fourth and 24th minutes while Mohd Fitri Saari (17th), Muhammad Faris Harizan (49th) and Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil (58th) chipped in with one apiece.
The AFHT replied through Ismail Abu (12th, 38th) and Mohammad Noor Firdaus Rosdi (53rd).
THT head coach Harfizi Baharom was pleased with his team's performance, saying: “For the semi-finals, we will tighten our defence and work on our on-field communication.”
