Royal College of Surgeons holds diploma ceremony in KL

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh today held its first diploma ceremony in Malaysia with 70 diploma recipients from eight countries receiving their scrolls at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The diploma recipients today were from Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Brunei, India, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Pakistan. 

They received Diplomas of Fellowship of Orthopaedic Surgery, Diplomas of Fellowship of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers, Diplomas of Joint Surgical Colleges' Fellowship in General Surgery, Intercollegiate Diplomas of Membership in Ophthalmology, Intercollegiate Diplomas of Membership in Otolaryngology and Intercollegiate Diplomas of Membership in Surgery in General. 

Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Dean of Dental Faculty Professor Michael Griffin, in his speech, said after two years of facing the COVID-19 pandemic, fellows and members travelled from all over the world to attend the inaugural diploma ceremony in KLCC. 

"We (Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh) have approached 1,000 members and fellows here in Malaysia. In 2018 we opened the international office that we now have here in Kuala Lumpur with an aim to enhance the support of education, assessment and training in Malaysia but more importantly to serve all the ASEAN region,” he said.

Based in Scotland with a membership of 30,000 from over 100 countries worldwide including Malaysia, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is the largest international surgical college in the world.
