KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE) is making a comeback at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from November 20 to November 22 this year after a two-year hiatus, the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) said.

In a statement, MTC said the international wood and woodworking trade show, jointly organised by MTC and the Panels & Furniture Group and supported by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, is set to be bigger and better than its inaugural show in 2019.

It said the expo aimed to uplift the industry amidst endemic and to inspire with new solutions and greater opportunities to source for the latest in the timber-based industry.

Chairman Norrida Yusoff said the council is anticipating a high number of serious international buyers who would boost business opportunities for the fair exhibitors.

“Everything has been doubled, from the exhibition floor space to the initiatives put in place, to make this show a resounding success and a profitable one for our trade fair participants,” she said.

Chief executive officer Muhtar Suhaili said MTC hoped the 2022 edition would surpass the RM140 million sales achieved in MWE 2019.

“We are hoping to do much better this year as many investors and business owners are putting the pandemic behind them and gearing up for more face-to-face business dealings at trade fairs,” he said.

He said the council is also anticipating more importers to join the business matching programmes, specifically the Incoming Buying Mission.

“In 2019, the Incoming Buying Mission, which was conducted in collaboration with MATRADE (Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation), generated sales of RM118.93 million,” he said.

To encourage participation in MWE 2022, MTC said the council would be providing incentives to local buyers who purchase machinery, air pollution control (APC) equipment and raw materials, whereas MATRADE would offer its Market Development Grant to local exhibitors
