AIR SELANGOR REPORTS CONTINUED COMMENDABLE PERFORMANCE IN 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has continued to record commendable achievements in the environment, social, and governance fields, which are showcased in its 2021 Sustainability Report launched today.

The water concessionaire said the achievements in 2021 were achieved through meticulous strategic planning, rolling out sustainability initiatives and the implementation of broader internal non-revenue water reduction programmes.

“Additionally, the reopening of the economic sector and the end of the Movement Control Order (MCO) period has also helped to enhance the progress of the planned work,” chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said in a statement in conjunction with the report’s launch.

Themed “Nurturing Sustainable Water Ecosystems”, Air Selangor’s second sustainability report focuses on its efforts and strategies in driving long-term sustainable and efficient water supply management and administration for over 8.4 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Through this sustainability report, Suhaimi said, the company supports all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the United Nations.

Air Selangor expressed its commitment to achieving the five key goals that are directly related to its operations, namely clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), economic growth goal and decent employment (SDG 8), responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), and peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16).

“Through Air Selangor’s 2020-2022 Sustainability Strategy, we have also provided our support to the SDG set by the UN by focusing on enhancing the resilience of water supply services while also ensuring continuous water supply to consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya,” he said.

He noted that the water utility company remains committed to mobilising all efforts and creating space and opportunities in its bid to realise the aspirations of its net-zero target of becoming the pioneer of sustainable organisation in the water industry in Malaysia and Asia.
