KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- The Electronic Business Linkage Programme (eBizLink) has generated over RM275.7 million in export sales in the digital economy from June 2021 until December 2022, surpassing the target of RM60 million set in 2021, said the Malaysia External Trade and Development Corporation (MATRADE).

In a statement today, the national trade promotion agency said 46 e-Business Global Campaigns were organised through MATRADE’s 42 overseas offices, assisting 995 Malaysian exporters, exceeding the target of 600 companies.

“The programme has also engaged 47 key opinion leaders through campaigns in China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,” it said.

MATRADE said that the top five campaigns with more than RM10 million in sales generated were the Malaysia Ayatha (My Ayatha) Umbrella Campaign in Yangon, Myanmar (RM66.7 million in sales), Virtual Malaysia Pavilion at Range Me in Miami, the United States (RM55.7 million), Malaysia-Alibaba Chinese New Year Shopping Festival 2022 in Shanghai, China (RM26 million), Virtual Malaysia Pavilion at ec21.com in Seoul, South Korea (RM18.3 million), and Malaysia Summit on the WABEL Platform in Frankfurt, Germany (RM17.9 million).

The agency said the highest sector demand was food and beverages, contributing RM160.5 million or 58.2 per cent share of total sales.

Other sectors were personal care products (RM36.73 million), healthcare products (RM29.77 million), automotive (RM21.89 million) and education services (RM7.73 million), it added.

MATRADE deputy chief executive officer (export acceleration) Sharimahton Mat Saleh said the programme’s success represented the agency’s aspiration to collaborate and partner with e-marketplace owners, digital marketers and Malaysian exporters in leveraging digital business platforms.

“It is a testament to the commitment of the Malaysian government to further facilitate businesses to pivot under challenging times and further promote economic growth and empower our people to drive the nation’s economy and position Malaysia as a leading exporting country.

“The eBizLink initiative has been a game-changer for Malaysian small and medium enterprises and mid-tier companies to succeed in the digital economy, providing them with the tools and resources they need to expand their reach, increase their competitiveness and succeed in the global marketplace,” she said.
