KOTA KINABALU, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare) launched its first mobile clinic here on Monday to provide quality healthcare services to people, including the less fortunate, in Sabah.
In a statement, KPJ Healthcare said the mobile clinic initiative was implemented through the Waqaf An-Nur chain of clinics (KWAN) as a result of a cooperation between the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) and Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).
KWAN chairman Norhaizam Mohammad in the same statement said the mobile clinic's services cover preventive healthcare, basic treatment for patients as well as specialist referrals when needed, in addition to being able to benefit thousands of patients.
“The mobile clinic will be run by a medical officer, two nurses, a clinic assistant as well as a driver. Patients can receive treatment in the mobile clinic, with a fee of RM10 per visit.
“The clinic will also provide healthcare services for the underprivileged communities in rural areas in Sabah, with services including healthcare prevention, basic medical treatment and referrals to specialists, if necessary,” he said.
Meanwhile, MUIS president Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said the mobile clinic will enable his side to reach out to the rural communities who do not have access to healthcare facilities.
He said MUIS’ focus on health assistance through the mobile clinic also targets the asnaf (tithe recipients) group.
According to the statement, from 1998 till August 2023, nearly two million patients received treatment at KWAN static clinics nationwide, and 32,014 other patients received treatment via KWAN mobile clinics from 2015 till August 2023.
The An-Nur MUIS Waqf Mobile Clinic, which was officiated by Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, was launched in conjunction with Sabah State Waqf Month 2023.
