SEPANG, June 24 (Bernama) -- Batik Air signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia on its new private terminal transfer service, designed exclusively for business class passengers.

The airline will enhance the travel experience for both Business Class Promo and Flexi passengers by offering a seamless and premium transfer between the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Building of KLIA Terminal 1.

In partnership with Kia through their sole distributor, Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, Batik Air will provide its business class passengers with a comfortable and eco-friendly transfer option.

“Passengers will be chauffeured in the all-electric Kia EV9 and the latest Carnival model, representing the latest in sustainable and premium automotive technology,” it said in a statement today.

This service would transport the passengers between the pick-up point at Gate G1 of the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Building, supplementing the existing bus transfer provided by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) due to the temporary suspension of the aerotrain service.

Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline is delighted to join forces with Kia, a leader in sustainable automotive solutions, to offer this exceptional service to its Business Class passengers.

“Utilising the all-electric Kia EV9 highlights our commitment to sustainability and delivering premium services to our passengers.

“Batik Air is taking proactive steps to reduce the environmental impact while ensuring our Business Class passengers enjoy unparalleled comfort and luxury. This initiative aligns perfectly with our long-term vision of achieving a more sustainable future in aviation,” he said after today’s MoU signing ceremony.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke was also present at the MoU signing.

Meanwhile, Kia Asia Pacific president and chief executive officer Kevin Ahn said the partnership with Batik Air aligned with Kia’s corporate vision of Plan S and their commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.

Kia's vision for sustainability is to become a leader in sustainable mobility and extend beyond the provision of zero-emission electric vehicle drivetrains.

Separately, Batik Air today also unveiled its latest enhancement in its onboard offerings by introducing its Wireless In-Flight Entertainment (WirelessIFE).

This latest service supports the airline’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for easy connectivity to the onboard Wireless-IFE, with smartphones, tablets, or laptops for the passengers.
