SARAWAK PREMIER REAFFIRMS PARTNERSHIP WITH PETRONAS IN O&G INDUSTRY

01/07/2024 10:04 PM

KUCHING, July 1 (Bernama) -- Sarawak has no intention of seizing Petronas' rights; instead, it views the company as a partner in the national oil and gas (O&G) industry, says Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said that all the initiatives taken by Sarawak in the oil and gas industry, particularly through Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros), are based on existing rights and laws.

“We don’t take people’s rights, we manage (our business) based on our rights. We work in harmony.

“We work together based on our laws, within the parameters of our legal rights. I want to clarify our position because many on social media accuse Sarawak of seizing Petronas' rights,” he said in his speech during an appreciation event for oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) industry vendors today

Meanwhile, Petronas’ Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) senior vice-president Datuk Bacho Pilong said that Petronas is committed to being Sarawak's strategic partner to drive growth and sustainability in the OGSE sector in Sarawak.

“Since 2020, we have seen an upward trend in jobs awarded to Sarawak vendors, and we are optimistic to meet our targets in 2024.

“As of February this year, the total value of jobs awarded to Sarawak vendors is RM37.41 billion, with RM22.62 billion awarded within the state itself,” he said.
