MALAYSIAN FIRMS IN DIRE NEED TO BEEF UP CYBERSECURITY AGAINST ONLINE, OFFLINE THREATS - KASPERSKY

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) – Kaspersky, the global cybersecurity and digital privacy company, has warned that businesses in Malaysia are in dire need of beefing up their cybersecurity against the escalating threats both online and offline.

Kaspersky general manager for Southeast Asia Yeo Siang Tiong said many companies in Malaysia did not see the importance of investing in cybersecurity.

He said the lack of focus and care for strong security protection renders companies susceptible to cyber threats, more so for those with hybrid and remote work arrangements.

“This can lead to costly financial and reputational damages in the event of a major attack,” Yeo said in a statement today.

Its security solution, known as Kaspersky Business Solutions, blocked 2.5 million local threats targeting businesses in Malaysia last year.

“Malaysia continues to see a significant number of attacks, averaging more than a thousand a day,” he said, adding that Malaysian companies should continue to prioritise cybersecurity.

Kaspersky recommends that businesses should fight cyberattacks even with limited cybersecurity staff by upgrading cybersecurity solutions.

They should also ensure and secure their integrated infrastructure with cybersecurity products as many artificial intelligence (AI) solutions are built on containers, said Kaspersky.

The software and environments necessary for developing, testing, and deploying AI models are packaged into containers, which are lightweight, portable, and self-sufficient unit of software that includes everything needed to run a piece of software: code, runtime, libraries, and system tools.

They should also train and upskill the workforce, adopt secure-by-design principles and meet regulations to avoid legal problems or reputational damage, by ensuring their cybersecurity practice meets changing standards and legal requirements, added Kaspersky.
