HYBRID CLOUDS FUEL BETTER BUSINESS OUTCOMES - ISG REPORT

19/07/2024 05:15 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- Information Services Group (ISG), a global technology research and advisory firm in its latest report revealed that enterprises in Asia Pacific (APAC) are turning to hybrid cloud and data centre services to meet specialised business, legal, cultural and information technology (IT) requirements.

The 2024 ISG Provider Lens Private/Hybrid Cloud — Data Center Solutions report for APAC, which covers Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and India, finds that various combinations of public, private and on-premises data centres are ideal for most companies in the region.

In a statement, ISG said cloud and data centre choices in the region are largely shaped by factors such as cost, security, data privacy and interoperability requirements, and access to computing power for generative AI (GenAI) has become another key consideration.

Conditions unique to certain parts of APAC influence companies’ decisions, especially because costs, network capacity and access to experienced labour vary widely across the region. In some cases, complex geopolitical issues affect which networks enterprises can use and where their data can be stored.

According to the report, companies struggling to manage IT budgets and resources are turning to managed services providers for help in migrating applications to the right IT architectures, which must meet requirements for server downtime, data loss and other factors.

Increasingly, enterprises want to automate operations through artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to boost efficiency and cut costs.

In addition to secure storage, reliability and fast connectivity, companies want these services to include advanced security measures and automated backup and recovery based on AI, as demand for managed hosting services is also growing in APAC.

The research shows companies in the region that need scalable computing and economies of scale are engaging with colocation providers in growing numbers.

To comply with local regulations on cloud sovereignty and other considerations, large multinational enterprises are working with providers that have facilities across APAC rather than only in top data centre locations such as Singapore or Melbourne. Companies focused on one market are considering more localised providers.

The report also examines other cloud and data centre trends in APAC, including the expansion of some managed hosting services to new countries and the rising interest in modular data centres for remote sites.
