JASIN, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- The waters around Sebatu in Sungai Rambai will be turned into crab farming project that uses the transfer of seed production technology from South Korea.

Sungai Rambai state assemblyman Siti Faizah Abd Azis said the project, expected to begin at the end of this year, will be implemented in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) International Institute of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (I-AQUAS), which successfully received a grant of almost RM1 million from the country concerned.

"The Sungai Rambai state assembly has established cooperation with UPM in an effort to establish a research and seeding centre for marine livestock products in Sebatu, thus turning the area into an agro-agricultural and eco-tourism village.

"Through this joint venture, the research team produced a proposal paper to be sent to countries that have technology in the field of aquaculture and succeeded in obtaining the grant," she told reporters after visiting the preparations for the Melaka D'Bendang Festival 2024 and Mini Carnival of Village Entrepreneurs (KUD) at Parit Penghulu Benteng here today.

In the meantime, Siti Faizah said preparations for the organisation of the festival, from Aug 9 to 11, were ongoing.

She said her team expected the three-day programme to attract 10,000 visitors through various interesting activities throughout the event.

"The programme which is being held for the second time will certainly be more lively with several improvements made to ensure it runs smoothly, including the provision of a more car parking areas.

"In addition, more than 140 entrepreneurs have registered to participate in the Mini KUD and many have expressed their interest in participating even though the registration date has closed," she added.
