Negeri Sembilan Gdp Up By 1.8 Pct

SEREMBAN, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.8 per cent to RM51.9 billion in 2023, compared to RM50.9 billion in 2022.

According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM), the state's GDP per capita also rose to RM51,709 in 2023 from RM49,861 in the previous year.

“The state’s Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) received approved investments totalling RM10.1 billion in 2023 (2022: RM8.9 billion).

“This comprised RM6 billion in foreign investments and RM4.1 billion in domestic investments," said chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in a statement today.

The manufacturing sector was the second largest contributor to the state's economy with investments worth RM7.6 billion, consisting of RM6 billion in foreign investments and RM1.6 billion in domestic investments.

Negeri Sembilan’s labour market continued to strengthen in 2023, expanding by 3.5 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 553,900 people (2022: 535,300 people), while number of persons employed also rose to 536,100 people (2022: 517,000).

The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) also increased by 1.0 per cent from 65.1 per cent in 2022 to 66.1 in 2023, while while the unemployment rate decreased by 3.2 percent.

Meanwhile, the state’s total trade slid by 5.5 per cent y-o-y to RM71.1 billion, with exports and imports valued at RM26.4 billion and RM44.7 billion, respectively.

Key exports from Negeri Sembilan included electrical and electronic goods (RM7.7 billion), integrated electronic circuits (RM2.0 billion), and piezoelectric crystals and components (RM1.5 billion), making up 42.5 per cent of the state's total exports.

“The main export destinations were Singapore (RM5.7 billion), the United States (RM4.1 billion), and China (RM3.5 billion),” he said.

Major imports were crude petroleum (RM6.9 billion), refined petroleum products (RM3.7 billion), and piezoelectric crystals and components (RM2.0 billion).

Primary import sources were Singapore (RM6.9 billion), China (RM6.1 billion), and Indonesia (RM5.4 billion).
