MAICSA Champions The Gold Standards Of Corporate Governance

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) is supporting organisations in navigating complex regulatory compliances and ensuring effective corporate governance.

In a statement, its president Datuk Akbar Moidunny said the institute aims to elevate professional development by offering cutting-edge programmes and championing good governance and ethical practices across sectors.

It also aimed to enhance member engagement through robust support and opportunities.

"Efforts will also focus on expanding MAICSA's influence and advocacy on both local and international stages, embracing technology to innovate its services, and fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity within the profession and the organisation,” he said at MAICSA’s president’s inauguration ceremony, where Akbar was inducted as the 29th president.

He emphasised that the need for chartered secretaries and governance professionals is becoming increasingly pronounced as industries across Malaysia continue to evolve and expand.

MAICSA, he noted, is at the forefront of addressing this growing demand.

"The rise in new company registrations, particularly in the post-pandemic era, coupled with the increasing number of entrepreneurial ventures, has significantly heightened the need for good corporate governance, compliance, and corporate administration services.

"As businesses across various sectors, including technology startups and established financial institutions expand and evolve, they increasingly recognise the crucial role of chartered secretaries in ensuring transparency, regulatory adherence, and organisational efficiency," he said.

Additionally, the growing emphasis on the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework further underscores the demand for governance professionals who can expertly navigate these requirements, he said.

“Despite the increasing need for these specialised services, there remains an acute shortage of qualified chartered secretaries to meet the demand,” according to Akbar.

He said MAICSA’s Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme is the choice for aspiring chartered secretaries and governance professionals due to its rigorous standards and international recognition.

The programme covers essential subjects such as company secretarial practice, interpreting financial accounting, company law, corporate governance, boardroom dynamics, risk management, and more, all of which equip our members to meet global benchmarks, he said.

“We are committed to upholding the gold standards that prepare professionals to contribute effectively to the development of organisations.

“By maintaining these standards, we support their growth, ensuring they are well-prepared to excel in complex regulatory environments and drive progress on an international scale,” he said.

MAICSA, the professional body for Chartered Secretaries and Chartered Governance Professionals in Malaysia has a membership of more than 4,200 members (comprising Fellows and Associates) and graduates, 1,800 students and 600 affiliates on its register.

Established in 1959, the institute is one of the distinguished divisions of The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) UK.

It is also among one of the prescribed bodies in the Malaysian Companies Act 2016 which recognises MAICSA members to act as company secretaries.
