KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (MACEOS) aims to attract more partnerships with foreign industry players through business events to strengthen the national economy.

MACEOS president Datuk Dr M Gandhi said the association is encouraging its members to focus on bringing in relevant technologies and exhibitors from abroad, ensuring these contributions align with Malaysia’s economic and nation-building goals.

“We need to bring the right exhibitors from overseas and introduce technologies relevant to Malaysia, such as in the electric and electronics, aerospace and service industries.

“By fostering strategic international collaborations, MACEOS aims to elevate the local industry while driving sustainable economic growth,” he told Bernama.

Gandhi said efforts include a maiden partnership with the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) in the Malaysia Business Events Week (MBEW) 2024, which will feature EVENTXPO 2024.

With the theme ‘Everything, Everywhere, Events!’, EVENTXPO 2024 was held from Aug 19 - 21 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, featuring 99 booths.

EVENTXPO 2024 showcased interactive workshops, insightful talks by industry experts and a careers fair for students and professionals exploring opportunities within the industry.

Gandhi said general attendance over the three-day event at EVENTXPO 2024 is expected to reach 3,000 visitors.

“This first edition has been a great success so far. I can see discussions taking place between Thailand and Malaysia, as well as with Indonesia.

“We expect to establish long-term relationships with different parts of the world and provide a vital platform for knowledge exchange and networking from this event,” he said, adding that over the past two days, 550 business meetings were held with 40 hosted buyers.

The event also hosted the MACEOS National Youth Challenge, encouraging young talents to present their innovative business event ideas.

Looking ahead, as Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025 and for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, Gandhi hopes the business events industry will significantly boost the economy by attracting higher-spending visitors who stay longer and spend more on accommodation and entertainment.

He emphasised that the business events industry must fully capitalise on these opportunities to ensure both immediate economic benefits and long-term contributions to nation-building.
