KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- TikTok Shop has trained more than 100,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia this year in collaboration with various government agencies.

The initiative, aligning with the ‘Jiwa Merdeka’ spirit of Malaysia’s National Day celebrations, aims to support the country’s digital economy by equipping local businesses with digital skills.

In a statement today, TikTok Malaysia’s head of public policy, Anuar Fariz, said the organisation remains committed to being a key partner in driving Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda.

“Together, we are upskilling small businesses and homegrown brands with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to grow and thrive both locally and globally, laying the foundation for a more resilient and inclusive digital economy that creates viable commercial opportunities for every rakyat to succeed,” he said.

TikTok Shop said that the government agencies it collaborated with included the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) to help local businesses expand into Singapore and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) to provide digital training for agricultural and disabled MSMEs.

The e-commerce platform also supported initiatives like the Sarawak Digital Mall campaign and Karnival TEKUN Madani and participated in a livestreaming competition with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Additionally, TikTok Shop worked with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to expand the Desamall platform and participated in the Festival Ramadan Putrajaya 2024 as the official partner.

TikTok Shop Malaysia’s director of strategic partnerships, Nur Azre Abdul Aziz, said that through collaborations with key government agencies and ministries, TikTok Shop had trained thousands of rural and urban entrepreneurs not only in online sales but also in leveraging social commerce through content creation, affiliate marketing, and live streaming.

“Today, with more than a million sellers across the country, 98 per cent of whom are MSMEs, on our platform, we hope to continue enabling local MSMEs to authentically connect with their communities and build a sustainable customer base, and we are grateful for the continued support and trust from our government partners,” she said.

TikTok Shop added that aspiring entrepreneurs, local MSMEs, and homegrown brands aiming to maximise their business potential through social commerce should sign up at TikTok Shop Seller Centre and explore step-by-step tutorial courses at TikTok Shop Academy.

It said that the platform will hold its 9.9 Tawaran Hebat Sale in September, offering discounts and rewards to Malaysian consumers.
