Economy Ministry To Kick Off 'Madani Mendengar' Initiative To Solicit Public Input For 13th Malaysia Plan

SEPANG, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Economy is set to launch an exciting series of engagement sessions and focus groups throughout all 13 states in Malaysia, starting at the end of this month.

This initiative, a key component of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and aptly named “Madani Mendengar”, aims to foster active participation and dialogue, said Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, who is spearheading this endeavour.

“I want to personally invite each of you to play an active role in this process. The success of 13MP and Malaysia’s potential to be a consumption powerhouse does not depend on the government.

“It requires a whole-of-nation approach where we are each invested in our country’s future,” Rafizi said in his speech at the Kick-Off Conference for 13MP here today.

He also said that the initiative will emphasise the importance of shaping a collaborative and inclusive economic strategy.

“The engagement sessions will function as a platform for the ministry to gather public thinkers, private players, and everyday people to listen to constructive feedback,” said the minister.

During a media conference, Rafizi said the “Madani Mendengar” initiative is also a process that allows the government to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the country.

“Whether in terms of potential, challenges or constraints, I believe that through much better engagement, we will be able to harness social cohesion because we can develop effective plans.

“It is just that over time, sometimes, people grow pessimistic with our plans because they feel that it does not necessarily address their immediate concerns,” he explained.

During the engagement sessions, the ministry will use the opportunity to meet with specific groups, some of which will coincide with the official engagement sessions with the states, said Rafizi.

“Some will be organised specifically for these groups, and all of this will involve me so that I can listen and engage.

“Ministry officials and leaders will also be able to hear the public’s views. So, it begins in September and it will continue for the next 3-4 months,” he said.

Rafizi also stated that the 13MP, which is currently being drafted, is expected to take six months to complete, with full completion by May next year.

He added that the important document for the country’s economic planning is scheduled to be presented in the Dewan Rakyat in July next year, following Cabinet approval.
