KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) targets to generate RM3.5 billion in sales at this year's edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) from Sept 17-20.

Chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said that the target is much higher than RM3.2 billion in sales recorded during MIHAS 2023.

He is optimistic that the target can be achieved with the increased participation of 1,910 booths this year as compared to 1,890 booths in 2023.

To be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), MIHAS 2024 will involve 1,400 exhibitors from over 45 countries this year, compared with 1,040 exhibitors from 44 countries in 2023.

"I am confident that the participation of more exhibitors this year will showcase the potential of the halal industry, products and services, which is garnering a high demand from abroad," he told Bernama after appearing as a guest on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme on Tuesday.

Commenting further, Reezal Merican said the global market for halal goods and services is expected to reach US$5 trillion (RM23.54 trillion) by 2030.

Hence, this rapid growth allows MATRADE to continue organising MIHAS as a platform that provides many opportunities for local entrepreneurs to penetrate the global market.

He said that one of the main components of MIHAS, the International Sourcing Programme (INSP), to be held on Sept 18, will see 20 premium buyers from 13 countries participating, and this is expected to generate a potential resource value of RM1.7 billion.

“MATRADE will also host 330 international buyers from 50 countries who will be matched with nearly 800 local sellers," he said.

Themed “Globalising Halal Innovation”, MIHAS 2024 will feature 14 clusters, including food and beverage, e-commerce, education, Muslim fashion and lifestyle, as well as Muslim-friendly hospitality and tourism.

This edition is expected to attract more than 40,000 local and international visitors.
