CIDB Calls On Construction Sector To Focus On Sustainable Method

18/11/2024 08:59 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The construction sector has been urged to focus on sustainable methods, energy-efficient designs and the use of green materials to ensure that the industry thrives economically and contributes positively to the environment and society.

Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chairman Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab said looking further into the future, it is critical that the construction industry remains aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sustainability and inclusivity are central to the International Construction Week's (ICW) mission, he said.

"ICW will also host the Facilities Management Seminar to optimise building operations and enhance sustainability, ensuring that our industry remains at the forefront of innovation and environmental responsibility.

"The future of construction is being shaped here, and your participation is essential to this transformation," he said in his welcoming address at the opening of ICW and the Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Showcase (BuildXpo) 2024, today.

The event was officiated by Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. Also present was Works Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Yusuf noted that the construction industry stands at the brink of a profound transformation, driven by the increasing integration of technology such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics.

These technologies are no longer futuristic concepts, as they are reshaping everything from project design to on-site management, enabling faster, safer and more efficient construction processes, he said.

"ICW serves as the perfect platform to showcase these innovations, demonstrating how technology is revolutionising the sector," he added.

One of the main highlights of ICW and BuildXpo 2024 is the International Sourcing Programme, jointly organised with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), where buyers from various countries are invited to source for products and services from exhibitors participating in the exhibition.

"This year we welcome buyers from Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste, China, Australia and Qatar. In addition, buyers from Egypt, Italy, Poland and Mexico will join the buying mission virtually," he said.

Hosted by the CIDB and managed by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the BuildXpo 2024 exhibition is taking place from Oct 22-24, 2024.

Themed 'Envisioning the Future of Construction', BuildXpo 2024 showcases a comprehensive array of products and services, ranging from construction technologies, machinery and software, to Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), smart building solutions and automation technologies.

Featuring 500 booths, the exhibition spans nearly 10,000 square metres and is expected to attract over 15,000 trade visitors.
