KOTA BHARU, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Standard Energy Asia (SEA) Sdn Bhd and Perbadanan Menteri Besar Kelantan (PMBK) have announced a strategic partnership to develop a state-of-the-art biofuel production facility near Tok Bali Port, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan.
The company noted that the facility will initially produce 5,000 tonnes of biofuel annually, with plans to scale up to 24,000 tonnes at full capacity.
"The project will primarily utilise used cooking oil and other sustainable biomass as feedstock, supporting circular economy principles and waste reduction efforts in the region," it said in a statement today.
SEA executive director Dr Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani noted that the facility will incorporate advanced technology and automation, positioning Kelantan as a leader in sustainable fuel production.
He highlighted that the site’s proximity to Tok Bali Port provides logistical advantages for sourcing feedstock and distributing biofuel.
PMBK chief executive officer Wan Mohd Husni Wan Osman highlighted the partnership's economic benefits, noting that the facility will create substantial employment opportunities for the local community, including direct positions within the facility and indirect jobs in supporting industries.
“We expect this project to catalyze further industrial growth in the region. The facility will feature advanced processing technology that minimises environmental impact while maximising production efficiency," he said.
Construction is set to begin in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, with operations expected to commence in Q1 2026.
"The project includes a comprehensive training programme for local workforce development and a research partnership with regional educational institutions to drive innovation in sustainable energy technologies," Wan Mohd Husni added.
He also noted that the facility’s design integrates smart manufacturing and digital monitoring systems, enabling real-time optimisation of production processes and quality control, establishing new efficiency benchmarks for biofuel production in Southeast Asia.
