MELAKA, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Proton Holdings Bhd has taken a significant step forward in sustainable mobility by introducing Malaysia’s first mass-produced electric vehicle (EV), the “e.MAS 7”, through its inaugural media drive.

The exclusive three-day event beginning Jan 23 gave the Malaysian media representatives an opportunity to explore the cutting-edge features of the e.MAS 7 as they journeyed to the historic city of Melaka.

This initiative underscores Proton’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for modern drivers.

ZakirinMedia head of content Muhammad Zakirin Md Tajuddin praised the e.MAS 7’s performance, likening it to that of an international car he had previously driven.

“The power is decent, and the acceleration is impressive (as) you can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour in the blink of an eye, which is remarkable for a car in this price range,” he told Bernama.

Zakirin added that the e.MAS 7 stands out among EVs priced below RM120,000, offering features rarely seen in this segment.

“With features comparable to higher-end EVs, the e.MAS 7 demonstrates Proton’s commitment to affordability, offering Malaysians an excellent value proposition,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Autobuzz junior writer Wong Jun Yuan described the overall experience as excellent, noting that the e.MAS 7 drives and handles well, with a noticeably less stiff ride than other EVs in the market.

“I would highlight the price point. Considering the features it offers, the e.MAS 7 has the potential to shake up the local EV market,” he told Bernama.

When asked whether the e.MAS 7 could compete with established EV brands, Wong commented that it is a well-rounded package in terms of performance, features, and pricing.

“However, there are minor areas for improvement, such as the addition of a tonneau cover for the rear boot and a front trunk.

“These are not deal breakers but would certainly enhance the overall offering,” he said.

Wong added that while the e.MAS 7 may not yet be a national symbol of pride, it represents a significant milestone, paving the way for the development of a fully homegrown Malaysian EV in the future.

Proton’s e.MAS 7 encapsulates the brand’s vision of making sustainable mobility accessible to Malaysians.

As the local EV market grows, the e.MAS 7 is a testament to Proton’s ability to innovate while remaining affordable, setting a strong foundation for the future of homegrown EVs.
