Yandex Launches Open-source Perforator To Optimise Server Performance, Cut Costs

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Feb (Bernama) -- Yandex, a global tech company, has introduced Perforator, an open-source tool designed to provide continuous real-time monitoring and analysis of servers and applications.

According to a statement, it helps developers pinpoint resource-heavy code areas and provides data to optimise them, potentially lowering infrastructure costs by up to 20 per cent, which can result in substantial savings for businesses.

Yandex senior developer, Sergey Skvortsov emphasised that Perforator allows companies to optimise server use without compromising performance, reducing server load and energy costs.

Perforator is suitable for a wide range of businesses, from small startups to large enterprises. It helps companies make the most of their existing infrastructure rather than investing in additional hardware.

It can be deployed on private servers, giving organisations full control over their data and aligning well with businesses needing strict security measures.

The tool, tested within Yandex’s environment for over a year, works by providing insights into server resource usage and identifying performance-impacting code.

It uses eBPF technology to monitor performance without slowing down the system, supporting various programming languages including C, C++, Go, Python, and Java. Additionally, Perforator features profile-guided optimisation (PGO), which can speed up C++ programs by up to 10 per cent.

Perforator also offers tools such as A/B testing to help large organisations optimise decision-making. By open-sourcing the tool, Yandex hopes to encourage collaboration within the tech community and drive innovation.

Future enhancements for Perforator include better integration with Python and Java, as well as more precise event analysis. The tool’s source code is available on GitHub for developers and businesses to use.
