KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- InDrive, the global mobility and urban services platform, expects to exceed 40,000 registered drivers in Malaysia by the end of 2025.

Its macroregional director for Asia-Pacific (APAC) Mark Tolley said the company is committed to enhancing driver support, improving earning opportunities, and fostering stronger collaborations with local driver associations.

He said inDrive’s growth in Malaysia is a testament to the strength of its model, which prioritises fairness, flexibility, and user choice.

“As urban mobility evolves, we see a strong preference for platforms that empower both drivers and passengers while adapting to local market needs,” he told reporters in a sharing session of inDrive 2024 Performance and 2025 Outlook here today.

Tolley said inDrive also plans to strengthen its existing presence in the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru.

He noted that the company is establishing mini driver support centres in key cities such as Penang and Johor Bahru, providing localised assistance, training, and improved service accessibility for drivers.

“As ride-hailing services expand, the conversation around gig worker welfare has gained traction across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia.

“inDrive is working towards enhancing insurance coverage and strengthening collaborations with driver and taxi associations, advocating for better support structures for drivers,” he noted.

According to Tolley, Southeast Asia remains a key region for growth, as the ride-hailing market is projected to generate US$9.41 billion (RM41.6 billion) by 2025 and grow at a 5.21 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2029.

In Malaysia, the industry is forecasted to reach US$510 million (RM2.2 billion) in revenue by 2025, with a 2.82 per cent CAGR through 2029, reflecting the sustained demand for accessible, efficient, and affordable transport solutions, said Tolley.

Meanwhile, regarding inDrive’s performance in 2024, he said that as of August 2024, the company recorded a 53.7 per cent increase in rides, a 56.1 per cent surge in active users, and a 36.1 per cent rise in active drivers.

“This marks a significant acceleration compared to its cumulative growth in 2022 and 2023 when rides grew by 21.6 per cent, users by 16.8 per cent and drivers by 23.3 per cent,” he added.
