KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Competency‐Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) Center has accredited and approved Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) training arm MAB Academy to certify Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) courses.

In a statement today, the academy said this certification reinforces its reputation as a trusted and credible aviation training provider, equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills to handle dangerous goods in compliance with international safety standards.

“With this certification, MAB Academy will be listed in the IATA CBTA Center Certified Companies Registry and featured in the upcoming IATA DGR Manual, 67th Edition (2026), along with future editions – a key reference for the aviation sector.

“This further establishes MAB Academy as the preferred choice for air freight forwarders and aviation professionals seeking IATA‐accredited training,” it said.

MAB Academy chief operating officer Aida Salfaraz Ahmad Fadzil said the approval enhances its credibility as a trusted training provider and enables it to equip industry professionals with the highest competency standards in handling dangerous goods.

“As we continue to innovate with technologies such as extended reality (XR), we are proud to set new benchmarks in aviation training and contribute to the industry’s future readiness,” he said.

IATA’s regional vice president for North Asia and AsiaPacific Xie Xingquan noted that by adopting a competency-based training approach, Malaysia Airlines – among MAG’s airline business portfolio together with Firefly, and MASwings – is enhancing operational safety, and improving workforce competence, performance and continuous learning.

He said this achievement underscores their dedication to high-quality aviation training and ongoing improvement, setting a benchmark for the industry in advancing workforce skills and regulatory compliance.

The academy also said as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance aviation training, MAB Academy is integrating XR into its CBTA DGR courses, providing participants with an interactive and immersive learning experience.

This initiative aims to deepen understanding and reinforce key concepts through cutting‐edge technology.
