KUCHING, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak state government is ready to engage with the federal government to detail the scope of cooperation between Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said.
He has not received any dates for the discussion but said the collaboration is positive for both government parties.
"If anyone calls for a discussion, I will come. The important thing is that there is (an effort to discuss), so it is a good collaboration between us," he told reporters after officiating the launch of a dental clinic here today.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said discussions would cover aspects of cooperation, including new projects explored by both companies in any field.
Anwar said the federal government acknowledges Sarawak's aspirations to engage in the state’s oil and gas industry during a Dewan Rakyat briefing session on Monday.
Anwar said this aspiration is enshrined in the Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016 (Amendment) (DGO), which comes into effect on March 1, 2025.
