25/02/2025 04:26 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) in collaboration with the Future Skills Talent Council (FSTC) is able to create more new talents in improving job skills that support the rapid development of technology.

TalentCorp Board chairman Wong Shu Qi said FSTC, which is led by the industry, acts as a platform to identify jobs with the skills needed by the industry, thus helping to address the shortage of qualified workers in the field.

She said TalentCorp acts as a secretariat while through FSTC, industry players will identify the skills and jobs needed in their respective sectors because there are graduates who enter the job market with skills not match with the industry.

"Those selected do not have to be fresh graduates, and those who have been working for a long time can also attend the interview session, while (those selected) are given training so that talent skills can be improved according to current and future needs.

"The first FSTC to be established was in the electronics & electrical (E&E) sector which saw 500 people successfully selected as new talent in that sector last year and received a salary increase of between five and 15 per cent, that's why we need to implement 'upskilling' and 'reskilling' programmes to produce more new talent," she said.

She told reporters after officiating a TalentCorp Briefing with Northern Region Industry Partners at the Setia Spice Arena Convention, Bayan Lepas near here today, which was attended by about 150 companies.

Meanwhile, Wong said Talent Corp is also producing a report on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), digitalization and the green economy on Malaysia's energy and work landscape in the second phase, which covers 11 sectors economy to understand the extent to which the technology will impact 12 industries including logistics, tourism and communications.

"The first phase of the report on AI, digitalisation and the green economy has been completed, TalentCorp is currently undertaking the second phase and it is the latest mandate from the Minister of Human Resources, (Steven Sim Chee Keong) which aims to make TalentCorp a think tank for the Ministry of Human Resources to understand the changes in the labour market that are impacted by technology," she said.

She said the study would be a reference not only for policymakers but also for industry players in preparing the workforce in the future.

Meanwhile, Wong said small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to apply for the Industry Training Matching Grant for SMEs (LiKES) to enable companies involved in training local talents through industrial training by optimising the incentives provided by the government to ease their burden.

"Now we suggest that more local companies take on students for internships for a period of up to six months and the government provides grants like LiKES so that more students can benefit, we want to encourage companies to take on more interns so that they have skills that match the company's needs," he said.

The LiKES matching grant covers a training period of up to six months with qualified applicants required to offer a training placement of at least 10 weeks and provide a minimum industrial training allowance.
