TAPAH, March 28  (Bernama) -- Funds for the People's Income Initiative (IPR) for those participating in the Agro Entrepreneur Initiative (INTAN) and Food Entrepreneur Initiative (INSAN) programmes under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) will be distributed to eligible recipients from next month onwards.

Its deputy minister K. Saraswathy said the initiatives being implemented by the Ministry of Economy would help the hardcore poor to set up cooperatives to start up businesses which would thus free from the clutches of poverty.

"I understand that to date, about 22,000 have registered under the IPR initiative since it was launched last February," she said when met after the Tautan Kasih Ramadan programme with children from an orphanage at Temoh, here today.

Also present was  State Women, Family, Social Welfare and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Salbiah Mohamed.

On Feb 24, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling Budget 2023 said the government has allocated RM750 million to the Ministry of Economy to implement the IPR.

The programme seeks to enable participants to earn between RM2,000 and RM2,500 per month during the 24-month monitoring period and allow them to generate their income through the results obtained.

Participants can apply to join the programme under several categories namely INTAN, INSAN and Services Operator Initiative (IKHSAN).

Earlier, 35 orphans from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Darul Aitam received contributions of Hari Raya clothes, school supplies, tables, chairs, mattresses and pillows at the event.
