“They were detained after testing positive for Methamphetamine following screenings conducted on 23 fishermen. The raid covered the jetty area and fishing boats docked there,” he said in a statement today.

He noted that 37 personnel from the Terengganu MMEA and the National Anti-Drug Agency as well as two marine assets were involved in the operation.

Mohd Khairulanuar added that the case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

“We do not rule out the possibility of traffickers targeting fishermen as their main customers, which is why operations will be conducted periodically to combat these drug abuse issues,” he said.
