IPOH, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- A teenage boy broke both his legs, and two others sustained minor injuries after a tree fell on the canopy tent where they were sheltering at Kampung Sungai Kuning, Selama, here today.

Perak Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said that the incident, which occurred at 1.44 pm, involved victims aged 17 to 20.

He said the victims were attending a wedding in the area when the incident took place and sought shelter in a canopy tent from a rainstorm.

“However, an oil palm tree near the tent fell and crushed the three victims,” he said in a statement here today.

Sabarodzi said eight personnel from the Selama Fire and Rescue Station took about 12 minutes to cut through the tree trunk, pinning one of the victims, using a chainsaw.

He said the victim with broken legs was handed over to Health Ministry personnel for treatment.
