Woman Feared Drowned After Being Swept Away In Sungai Air Berok

IPOH, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- A woman, 20, is feared to have drowned while her mother, 48, was saved when they were swept away by swift currents while bathing with their family in Sungai Air Berok, Jalan Padang Setang, Kg Kerunai Geri this afternoon.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad identified the victim as Nur Arina Azizan, adding that her mother was rescued by people in the vicinity and brought to the banks before the firefighters arrived.

“We received a call at 3.11pm, and a size-up operation was conducted applying the L.A.S.T concept iin our open surface search near where the victim is believed to be including conducting a skin dive.

“A kayak team from the Kg Kerunai volunteer firefighters, with nine kayaks also assisted in the search,” he said in a statement here tonight.

The operation was called off for the night at 7 pm and will resume at 8am tomorrow.
