Immigration Dept Detains 38 Foreign Nationals In Kinta, Perak Tengah

IPOH, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The Perak Immigration Department (JIM) detained 38 illegal immigrants during raids at 22 premises around the Kinta and Perak Tengah districts early today.

Its director, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik said 12 Immigration officers were involved in the operation conducted based on intelligence and surveillance by the Complaints, Intelligence and Operations Unit of Perak JIM’s enforcement division. The operation began at 11 pm last night and ended at 4 am today.

“A total of 38 foreign nationals were detained for suspected violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said in a statement today.

They comprise 28 men, eight women and two children aged between 1 and 52 years from India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia.

Meor Hezbullah said they had been sent to the Ipoh Immigration Depot for investigations and further action according to Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Meanwhile, Meor Hezbullah in a separate statement said eight undocumented immigrants were detained in raids at six premises involving eateries, lodgings and factories, in the Larut, Matang and Selama districts late last night.

He said 17 immigration officers were involved in the operation led by the enforcement unit from the Taiping Immigration branch from 6.35 pm yesterday to 12.40 am today.

“A total of eight foreign nationals; three men, four women and one child aged between 12 and 51, from Thailand and Indonesia were detained for suspected offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said.

He said the detainees had also been sent to the Ipoh Immigration Depot for investigations under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
