Ex-Company Director Fined For Submitting False Documents, Possessing Overlimit Cooking Oil

SEREMBAN, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- A former company director was fined RM450,000 by the Sessions Court here today for submitting fake documents to the authorities and possessing more than the permitted amount of subsidised cooking oil in 2022.

Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam imposed the fine on on Azizul Abdul Halim, 57, after he pleaded guilty to three alternative charges.

The court also ordered him to serve six months in jail for each charge if he fails to pay the fine.

Azizul, along with the 39-year-old son of former minister Muhammad Faisal Hamzah, had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were brought against them on April 5, 2023.

According to the two charges, Azizul, who was a director of Rimba Merpati Sdn Bhd, a licenced wholesaler for scheduled controlled goods, was accused of giving false information on documents or invoices for the sale of cooking oil to two retail stores.

The offences allegedly committed at the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) state office at 5 pm on Aug 12, 2022, were framed under Section 8(4) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, punishable under Section 22(2) of the same act.

Azizul was also charged with possessing cooking oil exceeding the 50 metric tonne limit, in accordance with Regulation 9(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, at Rimba Merpati’s business premises here at about 11.15 pm on Aug 11, 2022.

The charge was framed under Section 22(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, read together with Section 22 (4) of the same act and Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Alimah Mohd Sanusi  appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Hasnan Hamzah represented Azizul.
