Setia Alam Shooting Incident: Avoid Speculation To Prevent Public Anxiety - IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The police are advising the public not to speculate on the shooting incident that took place at a shopping mall in Setia Alam, Selangor, last night.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said any speculation regarding the case could cause unnecessary public alarm.

"We understand that this incident has raised concerns among the public. However, we urge everyone not to make speculations that could create anxiety," he said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, Razarudin said that security measures at shopping malls and other public places nationwide would be tightened following the Setia Alam incident.

He added that auxiliary police officers and security personnel at such establisments have been instructed to remain vigilant against any suspicious activity.

"Regarding last night's incident, Selangor police have identified the suspect, and various police units are currently on the ground tracking his whereabouts.

"We have also informed police in neighbouring states and border authorities to remain alert," he said.

Media reports yesterday stated that a shooting occurred at a shopping mall in Setia Alam at 10.50 pm., injuring a cleaner.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan today revealed that the suspect is a local male in his 30s with a fair complexion and has 11 prior records related to drug and criminal offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.
