BALING, June 10 (Bernama) -- The wife and daughter of the Perodua Alza driver in an accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students early yesterday morning have been placed in the same ward at Baling Hospital, here, to facilitate medical monitoring.

Kedah Housing, Local Government, and Health Committee chairman Mansor Zakaria said that all family members involved were in good condition, although two of them were still receiving treatment.

"I spoke to the Perodua Alza driver (Mohd Lutfi Radzi, 37) and saw that his condition has improved, and his son (Muhammad Ahsan Nafis, 2), was not injured.

"Although both were allowed to return home yesterday, they were still in the ward to accompany his wife and eldest child who were still being treated...all of them were placed in the same ward to facilitate monitoring," he told Bernama after visiting the family at Baling Hospital, here today.

He added that the Perodua Alza driver's wife, Nurul Ain Zakaria, 36, suffered a fractured left rib while his daughter, Nur Aisyah Nafishah Mohd Lutfi, 6, suffered a fractured right thigh.

"His wife is still getting treatment and is being monitored because apart from a fractured rib, she is also having difficulty breathing," he said.

Meanwhile, Mansor said, Mohd Lutfi also recounted the moments before the accident that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students.

"He said that their car was in front of the bus and was hit from behind, causing the car to spin several times before falling into a ditch on the left side of the road.

"On the right side of the road is a ravine and he assumed the bus was moving fast," said Mansor.

Earlier media reported that the bus carrying the UPSI students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to Tanjung Malim, Perak, when it skidded and hit a Perodua Alza car driven by Mohd Lutfi and his family, in an incident in Gerik, Perak, early yesterday morning.
