ALOR SETAR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has foiled an attempt to smuggle out 3,500 litres of subsidised diesel worth an estimated RM90,000.
It said the operation, conducted at about 8 am yesterday at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), led to the inspection of a suspicious-looking pole trailer lorry.
"A thorough inspection by officers on duty revealed an additional tank hidden underneath the lorry, filled with an estimated 3,500 litres of diesel.
"The modus operandi involved modifying a pole trailer lorry to evade detection by the authorities," it said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 6 and Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The lorry has been impounded for further investigation.
