SHAH ALAM, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has revealed that diesel fraud syndicates in the state are using the fleet card system to carry out their criminal activities.
Its director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said KPDN is currently actively conducting intelligence and investigations in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and is confident that the syndicates involved can be busted in the near future.
"We know that syndicates like this are creative and have started abusing the rationalisation of subsidies using fleet cards, which initial investigations found that they were using fleet cards that did not belong to them.
"I am confident that after this we (KPDN) will have many more cases under the Control of Supplies Act (CSA) 1961 including the fleet card syndicates," he said at a press conference after witnessing the disposal of Selangor KPDN's major exhibits here today.
Mohd Zuhairi said his party was also collaborating with oil producing companies in the country by implementing internal controls to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of operations to combat the syndicate.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zuhairi said that throughout the first six months of this year, the Selangor KPDN had resolved 96 cases under the CSA 1961 involving confiscations totaling RM2.9 million and a compound value of RM32,000.
He said his party did not hesitate to withdraw licenses including blacklisting any petrol station operator found to be abetting the fraud syndicate.
On May 28, the media reported the success of the Selangor KPDN in arresting five male suspects aged 30 to 45 and seizing 11 fleet cards believed to be involved in a syndicate manipulating the fleet card system.
