JOHOR BAHRU, July 4 (Bernama) -- Police are investigating the shooting at the Shell petrol station at the Second Link rest stop in Gelang Patah here that is believed to be linked to the dead body of a local man left at Sultanah Aminah Hospital yesterday.
Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar said they received word about the discovery of the dead man, 42, with gunshots to his body being left at the hospital without any identification documents at about 1.40 am.
“Closed circuit TV (CCTV) footage at the hospital showed that the body was left by two individuals in a dark coloured car while fingerprint checks revealed that the victim was from Sungai Petani, Kedah and have four prior criminal records,” he said in a statement today, adding that autopsy results showed that the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.
He added that preliminary investigations revealed that there was a robbery in the area involving a group of men armed with parangs who attacked another group of men armed with pistols, resulting in shots being fired at 12.12 am.
A police team subsequently arrested three male suspects, two locals and one Indian national, in their 30s to 40s, around Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur at around 7 pm the same day, he said, adding that a Glock 19 pistol, firearms and ammunition licence, a magazine containing six 9 milimetre bullets, a black Honda Accord and several bullet casings were also seized.
One of the suspects was a bodyguard and owned a firearms licence, but further investigation into the firearms ownership was ongoing, Kumar said, while the three suspects have been remanded for seven days till July 10 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Investigations are still being conducted to identify the links between the victim and the suspects involved in the two incidents, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 and 148 of the Penal Code as well as Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960.
