Bintulu Company Executive Loses RM600,000 To Non-Existent Currency Investment Scam

BINTULU, July 4 (Bernama) -- A company executive lost RM600,000 after falling victim to a fake online currency investment scam that did not exist.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the male victim, in his 60s, was attracted to an investment offer advertised on a website in early March 2025.

“The victim visited the website www.jpm-vip1.com/vip and was instructed by the scammer to download a fake investment app via the link www.jpm-vip3.com.

“The scammer had introduced himself as a representative of J.P. Morgan and managed to deceive the victim into making several transactions to designated bank accounts, amounting to over RM600,000 in total,” he said in a statement today.

The victim only realised he had been scammed when the suspect continued to demand additional payments to release the purported profits from the investment.

By the time the police report was lodged, the victim had only managed to recover RM441.

Police advised members of the public to not be easily deceived by investment offers circulated on social media and to always verify the background of any company beforehand.

PDRM also encourages the public to download apps such as Whoscall and Check Scammers CCID, as well as visit the portal http://semakmule.rmp.gov.my to verify phone numbers and bank accounts before conducting any financial transactions.

The public has also been urged to follow the official social media accounts of the Royal Malaysia Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) and @CyberCrimeAlertRMP on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for updates and information on the latest scam tactics.
