JOHOR BAHRU, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Customs Import and Export Supporting Document System (MyCIEDS) is expected to curb data leaks and enhance transparency in the management of import and export documentation.
Customs deputy director-general (Customs or Domestic Taxes) Norlela Ismail said the system also aims to strengthen the integrity of customs officers and forwarding agents.
“Once the documents are uploaded into the system, our officers process them based solely on the data displayed,” she said.
“We’re seeing results beyond our initial targets. During our engagements with agents, the feedback has been very positive, ” she told reporters after launching the system for the Southern Zone earlier today.
Also present was Customs director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin.
Meanwhile, Anis Rizana said MyCIEDS is a platform that helps customs officers and forwarding agents or importers share supporting documents for each Customs Form submitted through the Customs Information System.
She said MyCIEDS is a key component of the national agenda to strengthen cross-border trade governance and enhance competitiveness.
“By moving to paperless, the system expedites processes, increases government revenue and delivers a stronger economic impact,” she noted.
She said to date, more than 1,350 companies and forwarding agents nationwide have registered as MyCIEDS users since its phased rollout in January.
