Rolls-Royce Of Top Businessman Among Cars Seized In JPJ's Op Luxury

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- A RM3-million Rolls-Royce Cullinan which is believed to belong to a prominent businessman, was among 53 vehicles seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) under Op Luxury held in the Klang Valley since Wednesday (July 30) until today.

Senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said in the operation, JPJ also arrested three foreign men who were driving luxury cars without insurance coverage and expired road tax, as well as not having a licence.

"One of them, when asked for his driving licence, produced an international driving licence which, after inspection, was found to be fake.

"The man later admitted to buying the fake licence while abroad," he said during a media conference at the Kuala Lumpur JPJ Impound Depot here today.

Muhammad Kifli said that besides the expired road tax and insurance, the luxury vehicles seized were also found to have committed the offence of displaying an unregistered number plates and technical offences.

"Among the vehicles seized were a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, two Lamborghinis and an Aston Martin, all currently held at the JPJ storage depot for investigation and further action under the Road Transport Act 1987 and related regulations," he said.

He said that on average, the owners of the luxury cars that were seized gave the excuse of forgetting to renew their road tax and vehicle insurance.

Muhammad Kifli, however, said that this excuse was unacceptable because there are vehicles with road tax expired since 2022.

He also warned that the JPJ has also identified the locations and owners of more than 1,000 luxury vehicles that do not have road tax and insurance nationwide.

In light of this, he reminded vehicle owners to immediately renew their road tax before their last lap of luxury ends in confiscation as the JPJ will not compromise with any party that fails to comply with road regulations.
