JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 4 (Bernama) --  Newly appointed Johor Police Chief CP Ab Rahaman Arsad has pledged to lead with reform and integrity, guided by the principles of ‘GREAT’ — Good Governance, Responsibility, Empathy, Accountability and Tenacity of Purpose.

A Johor native, Ab Rahaman is serving in his home state for the first time in his career.

Drawing on his extensive experience in the police force, he aims to strengthen the state's law enforcement and administration as Johor’s 67th police chief.

At his first press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters here today, he outlined three core missions: delivering professional and ethical policing services, improving service delivery and governance, and enhancing the welfare of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel in Johor.

“These three areas align with the national direction of PDRM, but I intend to add value through the GREAT principles to guide all Johor police personnel,” he said.

Ab Rahaman acknowledged the strategic importance of Johor due to its border with Singapore and proximity to Indonesia, noting that this makes the state a vital national entry point and a focal area for economic, social and political activity.

He said maintaining public safety and order in such a dynamic state demands a high level of preparedness across the force.

“Johor’s 10,000-strong police force is its greatest asset in tackling current challenges, including cross-border crime and drug trafficking.

“I’m confident that with the cooperation of department heads and district police chiefs, we can uphold a high level of safety and public confidence in Johor,” he said.

Ab Rahaman replaces Datuk M. Kumar, who has been appointed Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.
