SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Motorists stopped during a Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) operation on the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) yesterday cited forgetfulness as one of the reasons for not carrying their driving licences.
Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the operation, which began at about 8.30 pm and lasted nearly five hours, saw a total of 580 vehicles inspected and 252 notices issued.
"Of the 252 notices issued, 76 were for not having a valid driving licence, 51 for expired Motor Vehicle Licences, 49 for vehicles with no insurance coverage, eight for not holding a Goods Driving Licence, seven for failing to display registration numbers, five for missing reflectors, and 10 for other technical offences.
"…some of those we checked today had not renewed their licences for as long as two years, and most of them were motorcyclists," he told a press conference after observing the operation at the Kemuning Toll Plaza heading towards Shah Alam here yesterday.
He added that 12 vehicles, namely eight motorcycles and four cars, were impounded during the operation.
Azrin said the integrated operation was carried out with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysia Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the highway concessionaire.
In the same operation, Petaling AADK arrested three local men, aged between 30 and 40, who tested positive for methamphetamine.
