IPOH, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The Perak Immigration Department (JIM) arrested three locals during Ops Serkap at the Kanthan Industrial Area in Chemor, on Wednesday.

Its director, Datuk James Lee said the operation conducted at 1.25 pm was carried out jointly with the Putrajaya Immigration Headquarters Intelligence and Special Operations Division and the Perak JIM Enforcement Division.

“The three suspects, comprising two men and a woman, were detained following intelligence work and information obtained by the department. The operation, which ended at 8 pm, involved 12 immigration officers,” he said in a statement today.

Lee said the suspects were arrested on suspicion of committing offences under Section 12(A) of the Passport Act 1966.

“They are being investigated for knowingly making false statements or producing documents they knew to be false, to obtain passports, internal travel documents, endorsements, or visas under another person’s name.

“They are also being investigated under Section 12(1)(h) of the Passport Act 1966 for intentionally assisting someone in violating the provisions of the law,” he also said.

He added that the department welcomes public cooperation in providing information to help combat the influx of illegal immigrants, including taking action against employers or individuals who hire or harbour them.
