KOTA BHARU, Aug 10 — The 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 16,000 kilogrammes of pork carcasses after intercepting two lorries along Jalan Besar Kampung Apal of the Kelantan-Terengganu Highway, yesterday.
Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the lorry drivers were unable to produce valid documents for the goods, suspected to have been smuggled from Thailand for delivery to the local market.
Two drivers and a lorry attendant, all Indian nationals aged between 23 and 46, were arrested.
The seized items, including the lorries, were worth an estimated RM1.04 million and have been handed over to the Terengganu Veterinary Department for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953.
